The Icon of Inahan sa Carmen sa Escalante arrived in Agusan del Sur around 4pm from Cebu fetched by Fr. Alaindelon Balasabas and was welcomed by the Agusanons in the afternoon Mass. Before the Eucharistic celebration, she was respectfully received by the people and was enthroned in the solemn way. Her place in the Church was beautifully made to let her feel the warm welcome of the community.
The Holy Mass followed officiated by Fr. Sirenio Jaranilla who expounded on Mary's virtues. He further explained that this is the first gift we received when we, Carmelites first arrived in the Philippines, we are returning the gift to the people that they may learn from her... that the Inahan sa Carmen sa Escalante (Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Escalante) can become a refuge and hope for all of us. Fr. Toto further based Mary's life as hard work towards salvation. As the reading of the day goes, "My Father is at work until now, so I am at work." We need to offer our works and labors to the Lord. That the Lady of Carmel may bless our hard work and intercede for us.

Tonight we had the Taize reflections and prayer before the image of Inahan sa Carmen sa Escalante. Despite of the heavy downpour, the youth came to intercede before the icon of the Inahan sa Carmen sa Escalante. The night were interpersed with songs like Ubi Caritas, Ave Gratia Plena, Flos Carmeli, Laudate Dominum, Veni Sancte Spiritus and others. This reflective exercise allowed the youth to get in touch to their spiritual side and to reach out to Mary as the perfect model for reflection to contemplation.

The Evangelization Committee under the Parish Pastoral Council of San Francisco, Agusan del Sur had their lenten recollection this day under the guidance of Fr. Toto Jaranilla. The group went to reflect on the different gospel readings from the first week of advent up to Passion Sunday. They viewed the film Jesus which focused on his temptation. Fr. Toto reminded the group that Jesus came to melt our hearts of stone so that we can share with those who hunger, to be humble and not to seek power... as Jesus offered the way of the cross rather than the way of ultimate power... the way of understanding suffering, to carry our cross than to have instant gratification from God from our suffering. To trust in God's grace alone. He used the Lenten Message of Benedict the 16th to expound this point. After the meal shared by all, he let the recollectees experience the "washing of the feet" to remind them of the words of Jesus... wash each other's feet as a concrete model of service.
