Irvin Mangmang had its first annual retreat as newly recomposed community under the direction of Bishop Zacarias Jimenez, Bishop Emeritus of Butuan Diocese. We had the retreat in Butuan. Our topic was Forming a Contemplative Community. The good bishop reminded us that not only the priests are called to evangelical counsels as the gospel was written not only for the clerics, but that this call is for all, religious and lay. He further encouraged us "to hear what the other is saying even without words" as this is also the essence of a real contemplative spirit. With the question, "what do we longed for?" the bishop echoed God's question to prophet Elijah on the mountain, "what are you doing here?" These questions led us to discussions and reflection on the meaning of our lives. We went back to our experiences and meditated on it. Our associate Lea Cabanban would later share her experiences during the Mass on August 13 that her family life is a gift from God but that she is just a caretaker of this family, she further elucidated that letting go is indeed important even with our management of children. We can only guide them but we should not impose our choices and wants on them.

After the retreat, the community proceeded to Camiguin for bonding. We stayed for two days in the house of Miss Billena, the aunt of Fr. Gilbert Billena. We visited the sites like Katibawasan Falls, the white island, the station of the cross, the sunken cemetery, Sto. Nino Cold Spring, the Ardent Hot Spring and the other sites.
